Welcome to my blog!
I am a lucky lady - the one and only art teacher to about 900 amazing and diverse young artists at Briargrove Elementary. This is my seventh year teaching here, and I am SO proud of all that my students and I have accomplished in our time together. I created the Briargrove Elementary Art Page in 2007 as a way to share a small sample of the beautiful, thoughtful work my students have created. Blogging has allowed me the opportunity to celebrate the wonderful artwork of children, to document my journey as an educator, and to connect with other art teachers all over the world. I am excited to launch this new blog as a way to further share what we do here at Briargrove, and to offer my thoughts and reflections along the way.
I am an artist myself, and a life-long lover of learning. I have been blessed to be able to study and grow through many amazing art and education programs and experiences in my life. After graduating from the High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Houston, I earned my Bachelor in Photography and my Master of Arts in Teaching from the Maryland Institute College of Art. I have an unwavering passion for teaching, an unconditional love for children, and a deep personal connection with the arts. I am dedicated to nurturing a healthy confidence in my students that comes from practicing open-ended problem-solving and creative exploration through art-making in a safe, respectful, and joyful environment. I love what I do, and believe that my vocation is one of the most important, and exciting, in the world!
Thanks for stopping by!
Warmly,
Warmly,
